Contemporary Chinese Image-making

Each year, CVC students join their studio-based colleagues in a "discipline history" module. Students can choose either art history, history of interior design, or graphic design history. In third year, these modules deal with recent and contemporary art and and design. This week, for example, the Design Now: graphics module had a lecture on contemporary image-making in China. The talk was given by our visiting colleague, Lulu Zhang, from Gen Dang Institute at the Beijing Institute of Technology in China.

Today, the BA Contemporary Visual Culture students welcome Wendy Williams, a design historian and graphic designer who specialises in exhibition design. Wendy has designed exhibitions for the National Museum of Ireland, the Pearse Museum and many others. Her latest role was as a curator of the Jacobs exhibition in City Hall. Upcoming Real World Engagement Guest Lecturer Mary Doherty

CVC Visiting Lecturer Sheena Barrett (LAB)

Our Real World Engagement Guest Lecturer lunch-time series kicked off today with a great talk from Sheena Barrett ,   Curator at The Lab and Assistant Arts Officer, Dublin City Arts Office. Sheena spoke about the work of The Lab and reflected on the different ways in which audiences engage with objects in museums versus galleries.  The Lab commissions a writer to develop a critical response for each show: another potential opportunity for CVC graduates! The talk was followed by a lively question and answer session.  The Guest Lecturer series runs every Tuesday 1.30-2.30 in  NA003, North House Annex, Grangegorman campus . The series is run in conjunction with the second year CVC Real World module where students are working on research placements in various cultural venues around Dublin.
